George (Barney) Koszalka, PhD
President and Chief Executive Officer, NeurOp, Inc., Georgia
Dr. Barney Koszalka is a senior executive with over 35 years of international experience creating new pharmaceutical products at Glaxo SmithKline, Burroughs Wellcome, Trimeris and Argolyn Biosciences. He has extensive experience managing pharmaceutical R&D, Joint Ventures, Business Development, Product Development, and Medical Marketing initiatives. During the course of his career he has advanced fifteen programs to preclinical projects, six to clinical candidates, one currently in Phase III (Maribavir) and one to the marketplace (Nelarabine). He has also contributed in a significant manner to the discovery, development and/or lifecycle management of twelve marketed drugs. Dr. Koszalka has seventy-five publications and twenty patents and serves as Section Editor for Current Opinions in Investigational Drugs.
He is on the Board of Directors for Expression Analysis Inc. and serves as Chairman of the Scientific Advisory Board for the Consortium for Parasitic Drug Development, a Gate’s funded program based at the University of North Carolina in Chapel Hill, NC. Currently Dr. Koszalka is President and CEO of NeurOp Inc., an Atlanta based biotechnology company developing novel treatments for CNS-based diseases.
