Gaylen L. Edwards, DVM, PhD
Professor and Department Head, Department of Physiology and Pharmacology, College of Veterinary Medicine, The University of Georgia
Dr. Gaylen Edwards received his DVM (1984) and PhD (1986) from the College of Veterinary Medicine at Washington State University and spent 3 years as a postdoctoral fellow in the Cardiovascular Center at the University of Iowa. He then moved to the University of Georgia in 1989 where he is currently Professor (1999) and Head (2007) of the Department of Physiology and Pharmacology in the College of Veterinary Medicine at the University of Georgia. Dr. Edwards has also served as Chair of the Neuroscience Division of the Biomedical Health Sciences Institute at the University of Georgia since 2002.
Dr. Edwards’ research interests are focused on the central neural control of ingestive behavior, including ingestion of food, water, salt, alcohol and drugs of abuse. These studies have been funded by the NIH, a number of foundations and private industry.
