Dr. Walter Wilczynski received a PhD in Neuroscience from the University of Michigan in 1978. After postdoctoral research at Cornell University, he joined the Psychology Department at the University of Texas and participated in the formation of their interdepartmental Institute for Neuroscience and neuroscience graduate program. He was recruited to Georgia State University in 2005 as a full professor in the Psychology Department to become the Co-director for Research and Academic Programs in the Center for Behavioral Neuroscience, a multi-institutional Science and Technology Center funded by the National Science Foundation. In April, 2008, he was named as the first director of GSU’s newly established Neuroscience Institute. Dr. Wilczynski has been funded for over 20 years by the National Science Foundation and National Institute for Mental Health for neuroscience research investigating the neural and hormonal mechanisms social behavior, social communication, and sensory processing and is the author of numerous publications and book chapters in these areas of neuroscience.
