Gregory Milman, PhD, is Director of the Office of Innovations and Special Programs in the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases (NIAID). He manages NIAID $100 million small business programs and promotes NIAID biodefense opportunities. Dr. Milman is a member of the NIH Trans-Agency Complementary and Alternative Medicine Coordinating Committee, multiple NIH Roadmap Committees, the Board of Directors of the Biotechnology Industry Organization Council of Biotechnology Centers, and Maryland Governor's Commission on the Development of Advanced Technology Business. In 2000, Dr. Milman served as NIH staff in President Clinton's White House Office of Science Policy. From 1997 to 2000, he organized the NIH Bioengineering Consortium, precursor to the National Institute of Biomedical Imaging and Bioengineering. From 1988-1999, he directed NIAID's $70 million basic AIDS research program and established the NIH Centers for AIDS Research and the AIDS Reagent Program. In 1985, Dr. Milman used NIH Small Business funding to start a biotechnology company focusing on viral diagnostics. Dr. Milman was a visiting Professor in Honors at the University of Maryland College Park from 1997-2000, Associate Professor of Biochemistry at Johns Hopkins University from 1976-1988, and an Assistant Professor at UC Berkeley from 1970-1976.
