Fred D. Ledley, MD
Professor and Chair, Bentley College

Dr. Fred Ledley is the Founder and Chairman of My Genome. His career has followed the maturation of genomics from basic research to medical applications. While he served on the faculty of the Departments of Cell Biology and Pediatrics of the Baylor College of Medicine and the Howard Hughes Medical Institute he authored more than 150 publications describing the genetics of metabolic diseases and the application of genomics to medicine including product development, safety and quality considerations, clinical trial design, and bioethics. He was a scientific founder and Vice President, Medicine of GeneMedicine, Inc. focused on developing pharmaceutical products through gene therapy, and President & CEO of Variagenics, focused on the application of genetic variation to personalize medicine. He is currently the Founder and Chairman of Mygenome, Inc., a start-up company focused on delivering the health benefits of genomics to consumers. Dr. Ledley has a M.D. from Georgetown University, trained in Pediatrics and Genetics at Boston Children's Hospital and MIT with Dr. David Baltimore. He currently serves on the Board of Overseers of Boston Children's Hospital and has served as a member of the Board of Directors of the Massachusetts Biotechnology Counsel and on the Counsel of the Society for Pediatric Research. His current interests focus on overcoming the barriers in the healthcare system that limit delivery of the health benefits of genomics to the public including the use of IT systems to empower consumers with actionable knowledge concerning their genetic risk of common disease.
