William D. Johnston, PhD
President and CEO, Inhibitex, Inc.
Dr. Johnston is the President & CEO of Inhibitex, Inc. located in Alpharetta, Georgia, a biopharmaceutical company focused on the discovery, development and commercialization of antibody-based products for the prevention and treatment of serious, life-threatening infections. Dr. Johnston has thirty years of executive experience in the biotechnology and medical industry. From 1991 to 1997, he was Vice President and General Manager of the Gene Therapy Business Unit of Baxter Healthcare Corporation. From 1975 to 1997, Dr. Johnston held various executive positions at Baxter Healthcare Corporation, including Vice President of Applied Sciences, which was the central research and development unit of Baxter. Dr. Johnston currently serves as a director of ACTx, a privately held medical device company. Dr. Johnston is also a member of both the Board of Directors and the Emerging Companies Section Governing Body of the Biotechnology Industry Organization. Since 1999, Dr. Johnston has served on the Board of the Georgia Biomedical Partnership, and is currently Vice-Chairman; additionally, he is the Chairman for the Bioscience Council Executive Committee for the Metro Atlanta Chamber of Commerce, and is an advisory member to the Board of Directors for the Georgia Department of Economic Development. His B.S. in Chemistry and Ph.D. in organic chemistry were earned at Brigham Young University.
