HIV Drug Resistance Workshop has gained a reputation over the last
12 years as being the premier meeting on HIV drug resistance. Leading
laboratory and clinical scientists present their latest, research
at this Workshop, which often results in "paradigm" shifts
in antiretroviral therapy. The Workshop is renowned for the quality
of the data presented and the depth of the scientific interaction
and debate.
This year the Workshop is being held at the
Gran Hotel Bahia Del Duque in Tenerife Sur - Costa Adeje, Canary
Islands, Spain on June 8-12, 2004. The Workshop continues to attract
the most prominent scientists and clinicians, thereby, maintaining
the Workshop's excellent reputation for cutting-edge science and
service. Additionally, through support of our Funding Partners,
scholarships are available for young scientists and community representatives.

APPLICATION
As the XIII International HIV Drug Resistance Workshop is a closed workshop, with a limited attendance of 250 delegates. Priority will be given to the presenting authors of submitted abstracts.

All applications will be acknowledged, but this acknowledgment does
NOT represent a confirmation of acceptance to register.

ACCOMMODATIONS
Accommodation at the Gran Hotel Bahia Del Duque is included in the
registration package. All confirmed, registered delegates will have
a single-occupancy room reserved for four (4) nights, June 8-11
2004, inclusive. Any additional nights and incidentals will be the
responsibility of the delegate. The discounted group rate is available
for delegates for the 4 days prior to and after the meeting, subject
to availability.

Statement of Need
The content of the XIII International HIV Drug Resistance Workshop
was determined by assessment of educational need, including feedback
from prior programs and new medical knowledge.
Target Audience
This Workshop was designed to interest physicians, clinicians, scientists
and clinical researchers in the HIV resistance arena.
Accreditation
This activity has been planned and implemented in accordance with
the Essential Areas and Policies of the Accreditation Council for
Continuing Medical Education ("ACCME") through the joint
sponsorship of the University of California, San Diego School of
Medicine and Informed Horizons, LLC. The University of California,
San Diego School of Medicine is accredited by the ACCME to provide
continuing medical education for physicians.
The University of California, San Diego School
of Medicine designates this educational activity for a maximum of
18 category 1 credits toward the AMA Physician's Recognition Award.
Each physician should claim only those credits that he/she actually
spent in the educational activity.

Upon notification of acceptance, the delegate must REGISTER for
the Workshop by May 18, 2003. Failure to register on or before the
deadline may result in the loss of your acceptance in the Workshop.

Cancellation Policy
Due to nature of this closed Workshop and the proximity of registration
to the commencement of the Workshop itself, all registration fees
are nonrefundable.
Official Language
English will be used throughout the Conference. Simultaneous translations
will not be made available.
Letter of Invitation
International registrants who require a letter of invitation to obtain a travel visa may contact Informed Horizons directly by email at info@informedhorizons.com. Please include your name, address, fax number and note requesting a letter of invitation. Delegates from China should also include their passport number, date of birth and gender. All letters of invitation will be sent by fax unless otherwise requested.
Scholarship Fund
A limited number of scholarships are available for young scientists,
age limit of 35 for eligibility, and community representatives.
Please indicate on your APPLICATION FORM that you wish to apply.
You must also provide a letter from your mentor/supervisor indicating
your need for a scholarship and a copy of your passport or driver's
license.

INFORMATION
VISA/PASSPORT INFORMATION
To enter Spain from the United States, Canada, Mexico or European
Union countries a valid passport is needed. Visitors from countries
outside the European Union countries who wish to stay longer than
90 days will be required to obtain a Visa. We advise you to contact
the appropriate government authorities or Consulate to your country
in order to facilitate all travel and visa requirements.
TENERIFE SUR-REINA SOFIA AIRPORT
(TFS)
The Gran Hotel Bahia Del Duque Resort is located in the Southern
part of the island of Tenerife and within a 20-minute drive of the
Tenerife Sur-Reina Sofia Airport (TFS).
Please be sure that your flight is booked
to arrive at the Tenerife Sur-Reina, Sofia Airport (TFS) and NOT
Tenerife Norte Los Rodeos Airport (TFN). If you fly into the Tenerife
Norte Los Rodeos Airport (TFN) you will have to drive in excess
of an hour to reach the hotel.
WORKSHOP SHUTTLE SYSTEM
A complimentary airport shuttle will be available to Workshop attendees
on Tuesday, June 8th from the Tenerife Sur-Reina Sofia Airport.
Upon arrival, participants should proceed to baggage claim. Once
you have collected your baggage and exit customs you will be greeted
by a representative holding a HIV Drug Resistance Workshop sign.
You will then be escorted to the shuttle and then onto the Bahia
Del Duque.
AIRPORT TO HOTEL

Shuttles depart every 30 minutes on the half hour.
HOTEL TO AIRPORT
June 12, 2004: 01:00 hours - 13:00 hours
Shuttles depart every 30 minutes on the half hour.
If you are arriving or departing outside of
the shuttle times, taxis can be hailed immediately outside of the
airport or from the concierge of the Bahia Del Duque. A taxi from
the Tenerife Sur-Reina Sofia Airport to the hotel is approximately
$36.00 US (32 Euros) and is approximately a 20-minute ride.

If you are interested in renting a car, please find the following

Only a State or provincial driver's license
is required to rent a car, but an International Driver's License
will be required should you be involved in an accident or stopped
by the police. The International Driver's License is available at
AAA offices in the US for $10.00. You will be required to provide
two passport-size photos.
IF YOU ARE DRIVING YOUR RENTAL VEHICLE
When you are exiting the airport, there is
only one main highway that connects Tenerife South to Tenerife North.
Take the highway towards Los Cristianos. Take exit #28 and turn
left, follow the signs to the Gran Hotel Bahia Del Duque Resort.

Climate
Due to its subtropical situation, the Canary Islands have an average
temperature of 72ºF/22ºC and there is little night/daytime
variation.
Credit Cards, Currency and Exchange
All major international credit cards are accepted. Foreign currency
and traveler's checks can be exchanged at the Tenerife Sur-Reina
Sofia Airport foreign-exchange office. The Euro is the official
currency in Spain.
Electrical Power
The electric current used in Spain is 200 volts/50hz and the wall
sockets are for the European systems of round plugs with two pins.
We highly recommend that you bring an adapter to Tenerife with you,
as well as an appropriate transformer, if you will need to use one.
Tipping
In restaurants, hotels, and taxis, gratuity is not expected. Although
optional, tips are readily accepted and a general guideline is 10%
of the bill, depending on the quality of the service.
