The
XII International HIV Drug Resistance Workshop has gained a reputation
over the last 11 years as being the premier and most prestigious HIV
drug resistance meeting on the calendar. Leading scientists and clinicians
in the HIV resistance field attend it and present their latest, largely
unpublished work. This closed Workshop is renowned for the quality
of the data presented and the depth of the scientific interaction
and debate.
This year's workshop will be held at the Hacienda del Mar Resort
& Spa, in Cabo Del Sol, Los Cabos, Mexico. The Workshop continues
to attract the most prominent scientists and clinicians, thereby,
maintaining the Workshop's excellent reputation for cutting-edge
science and service. Additionally, through support of our Funding
Partners, scholarships are available for young scientists and community
representatives.
APPLICATION
As the XII International HIV Drug Resistance Workshop is a closed
workshop, with a limited attendance of 250 delegates. Priority will
be given to the presenting authors of submitted abstracts.

NOT represent a confirmation of acceptance to register.

ACCOMMODATIONS
Accommodation at the Hacienda del Mar Resort & Spa is included
in the registration package. All confirmed, registered delegates
will have a single-occupancy room reserved for four (4) nights,
June 10-13 2003, inclusive. Any additional nights ($150.08 per night)
and incidentals will be the responsibility of the delegate. The
discounted group rate is available for delegates for the 4 days
prior to and after the meeting, subject to availability.
Hacienda del Mar Resort & Spa is situated on a private beach
surrounded by 28 acres of quiet, private gardens. The hotel is just
10 minutes from the night life of Cabo San Lucas and 20 minutes
from the quaint village of San Jose del Cabo. The hotel has excellent
facilities as well as comfortable guest rooms, equipped with air
conditioning, TV, safe and minibar.

- Provide an update on resistance to new antiretroviral agents
- Review mechanisms of HIV drug resistance
- Present topics specific to HIV pathogenesis, fitness and resistance
- Expand the scope of the clinical implications of resistance
- Present new developments in epidemiology
- Introduce new resistance technologies and interpretations
Statement of Need
The content of the XII International HIV Drug Resistance Workshop
was determined by assessment of educational need, including feedback
from prior programs and new medical knowledge.
Target Audience
This Workshop was designed to interest physicians, clinicians, scientists
and clinical researchers in the HIV resistance arena.
Accreditation
This activity has been planned and implemented in accordance with
the Essential Areas and Policies of the Accreditation Council for
Continuing Medical Education (“ACCME”) through the joint
sponsorship of the University of California, San Diego School of
Medicine and Informed Horizons, LLC. The University of California,
San Diego School of Medicine is accredited by the ACCME to provide
continuing medical education for physicians.
The University of California, San Diego School of Medicine designates
this educational activity for a maximum of 18 CME hours in category
1 credit towards the AMA Physician’s Recognition Award. Each
physician should claim only those hours of credit that he/she actually
spent in the educational activity.
REGISTRATION FEE INFORMATION
Upon notification of acceptance, the delegate must REGISTER for
the Workshop by May 16, 2003. Failure to register on or before the
deadline may result in the loss of your acceptance in the Workshop.

Cancellation Policy
Due to nature of this closed Workshop and the proximity of registration
to the commencement of the Workshop itself, all registration fees
are nonrefundable.
Official Language
English will be used throughout the Conference. Simultaneous translations
will not be made available.
Letter of Invitation
International registrants who require a letter of invitation to
obtain a travel visa may contact Informed Horizons directly by email

fax number and note requesting a letter of invitation. Delegates
from China should also include their passport number, date of birth
and gender. All letters of invitation will be sent by fax unless
otherwise requested.
Scholarship Fund
A limited number of scholarships are available for young scientists,
age limit of 35 for eligibility, and community representatives.
Please indicate on your APPLICATION FORM that you wish to apply.
You must also provide a letter from your mentor/supervisor indicating
your need for a scholarship and a copy of your passport or driver's
license.

Visa
/Passport Information
To enter Mexico you need to obtain a Tourist Card (FMT). To get
your Tourist Card you will need to prove citizenship, a passport
is best for this purpose. Other forms of accepted proof of citizenship
include, certified birth certificate, voter's registration card,
naturalization papers or a notarized affidavit of citizenship. A
photo ID is required for international travel. A passport can serve
as proof of citizenship and photo ID. Airlines will furnish the
Tourist Card. Be sure to save the blue copy, as you must present
this copy when leaving Mexico.
San
Jose Del Cabo Airport (SJD)
The airline companies that service the airport in Los Cabos
include: American Airlines, America West, Alaska Air, Continental,
AeroMexico, Mexicana Airlines, and United Airlines.

The San Jose del Cabo Airport is a 35-minute drive to the Sheraton
Hacienda Del Mar.
The airport is small but includes three small terminals.
Terminal # 1 Continental, American Airlines, AeroMexico, Mexicana
Airlines, America West and United Airlines.
Terminal # 2 Private planes only.
Terminal # 3 Alaska Air
Once you have departed the plane, you must proceed to the terminal
and stand in line to clear Immigration and Customs. Once at the
Immigration counter, the officer will review your proof of citizenship,
review your Tourist Card for your signature (on the back), and then
stamp your Tourist Card. The officer will keep a copy, then give
a copy back to you. KEEP THIS COPY. You must have this to board
your returning flight.
Once you collect your luggage, you must proceed to the Customs line.
After clearing Customs, you are free to exit the airport. Once you
exit the secured area, you will find the rental car booths.
Complimentary
Workshop SHUTTLE System
The HIV Drug Resistance Workshop shuttles will be clearly marked
with the name of the workshop. After passing through customs, you
will proceed to the exit and will be greeted by English speaking
hostesses standing approximately 10 meters away from the exit with
signs reading HIV Drug Resistance Workshop. Once you
meet the hostesses, they will lead to the shuttle buses.
The Hacienda Del Mar is a 35-minute ride from the San Jose Del Cabo
Airport (SJD). The conference secretariat is pleased to offer a
shuttle service for all attendees:

If you are arriving outside of these times, you can use the Authorized
Taxi and Airport Shuttle Service that are located immediately when
you exit the baggage claim area out of the airport in Terminal 3.
To request a taxi or airport shuttle, you must make a reservation
ahead of time with the official airport transportation company
Los Cabos Express.
The Los Cabos Express airport shuttle is approximately $13 per person.
This shuttle service will make various stops at resorts along the

Taxi from airport to hotel is approximately $75.00 US and is approximately
a 35-minute ride.

Climate
Los Cabos enjoys a sub-tropical climate. The average temperature
in July is 85 degrees Fahrenheit during the day. The average humidity
is 60%.
Credit
Cards, Currency and Exchange
All major international credit cards are accepted. Foreign currency
and traveler's checks can be exchanged at the San Jose Del Cabo
Airport foreign-exchange office. A Cash-point machines accepting
major international credit cards, domestic ATM cards and charge
cards is available at the Sheraton Hacienda del Mar. Mexican currency
is the Peseta and is approximately equal to 10% of 1 US Dollar.
Electrical
Power
The electric current used is the typical North American 110v/60hz.
If you will need to use an adapter, please be sure to use an appropriate
transformer as well.
Tipping
In restaurants, hotels, taxis, hairdressers and so on, gratuity
is not included in the price. Although optional, tips are readily
accepted and a general guideline is between 5% and 10% of the bill,
depending on the quality of the service.
