Welcome December 13-18, 2002, The Ritz-Carlton, Naples, Florida

We are pleased to offer you the opportunity to participate in HIV DART 2006, which will build upon the past successes of the DART series of international antiviral drug discovery meetings. Frontiers in Drug Development for Antiretroviral Therapies will be held on December 10-14, 2006. Although a substantial decline in HIV/AIDS incidence continues, the slope of this decline is decreasing, which may indicate that much of the benefit of existing therapies has been realized. Nevertheless, there are more than 40,000 new cases of HIV diagnosed each year in the USA and the number of individuals requiring salvage therapy is increasing. The need for HIV drug development extends worldwide, as the situation is similar in Europe and other developed countries, while the developing countries continue to shoulder an enormous HIV burden.

Consequently, the development of novel HIV drugs remains crucial, as individuals in the developed world continue to develop multi-drug resistance and a fair proportion of newly infected patients are infected with resistant strains. Additionally, similar issues will appear in the developing countries, as access to treatment increases.

Together, we will learn from each other in a relaxing but stimulating environment and, as a result, leave HIV DART 2006 with a renewed dedication to improve the lives of people infected with HIV/AIDS.
